Yahoo! Small Business has teamed up with Carolyn Kepcher, to empower women. They are seeking women to apply for the Yahoo! Seeds for Success promotion, a competition that offers the opportunity for three women entrepreneurs to each win a $20,000 cash grant to help boost their existing business or start one. If you think your idea or business is the next breakthrough, read on.
Three finalists will be chosen from all applicants and each will be given technical support from Yahoo! Small Business partners, as well as mentoring advice from Carolyn & Co. Media’s fwm: Finding What Matters. One final winner will then be selected to win an additional $10,000 grant for a total of $30,000!
Who can enter
The Promotion is open to female entrepreneurs who
-
are legal residents of one of the fifty United States or the District of Columbia
are at least 21 years of age
have not been convicted of a felony or crime of moral turpitude; (yes “moral turpitude”)
the sole proprietor of a small business started on or after April 7, 2005 and before March 16, 2008;
or the principal owner (holding at least 51% of the vote and value) of an existing small business having 5 or fewer full-time employees (including the entrant) and making less than $250,000 in revenue, which was incorporated or formed on or after April 7, 2005 and before March 16, 2008

The three confirmed Finalists will each receive:
$20,000 cash, delivered in the form of a check
Free Yahoo! Web Hosting services for 2 years
Up to $5,000 in partner provided web site design on Yahoo! Web Hosting or Yahoo! Merchant Solutions, to include client services work, design, and coding for the sites.

Technical assistance and consultations with “business experts”
One Grand Prize winner in addition to the above gets:

Contest Time line The Promotion consists of four phases.
Phase One: Get your entries in ladies!
Beginning on March 17, 2008 through April 6, 2008 at 11:59pm PT last day to enter
Phase Two: April 7 - April 27, 2008 Finalist selection process
Three confirmed finalists will each receive a “Finalist Prize” of $20,000
April 7 through approx. April 18, 2008- Top 3 entries determined by the judges
April 18 - April 27, 2008 - contacted to arrange a personal interview and pre-screening
Yahoo! and fwm: Finding What Matters will finalize and publish to the Potential Finalists a set of progress milestones
Phase Three: April 28, 2008 - October 12, 2008
During Phase Three, each Finalist will work with her Eligible Business to achieve, as best possible, the Progress Milestones identified in the previous Phase. Their business growth will be tracked over a six month period. At the end of this period, one finalist will be named the grand prize winner and will receive an extra $10,000 cash grant for her business
Phase Four: Starting October 13, 2008 - October 27, 2008
The three Finalists will be scored based on the degree to which each Finalist’s business has met the Progress Milestones in the previous Phase.
October 27, 2008 The Grand Prize winner will be announced

As usual a great find. This really is a great opportunity and I hadn’t read about it anywhere. As a woman owned business I’ll almost certainly apply.

I just showed this to my g/f who is currently a starving artist so thank you for pointing this out. She claims she’s never been convicted of crime of moral turpitude either (so she says) so she should be eligible.
