Ramblings: Theme Change, In the Press and Deadlines Approaching

Written on April 1, 2008 by Amanda M. Gladden

ramblings I’m considering updating the site’s layout since the current theme does not look as good in Explorer as it does in Firefox (Explorer often does not show the 3 column layout), but I’m torn because I like the vibrant colors and I’m not sure I want to give up the color scheme. What do you think?

Do you like the current color scheme ? Let me know in the comments below.

goodnewsOn another note, Woman Start Your Business Now was mentioned briefly in an article in the New York Times by Brent Bowers,
Advice on Taking an Entrepreneurial Leap. Ok, so it was only a brief mention, but it’s the NY Times all the same :))

We were also mentioned as one of the 96 Women Bloggers to Watch for Spring 2008 on the Virtual Woman’s Day blog.

Congratulations on the mention in the NYT. The site looks fine here in IE7 and always has, looks fine in Firefox and Opera too. I have always seen all three columns. The only thing that is tough to make out is the subtle shades on the LCD for the column backdrops. Really though I like the existing layout - or at least the text size and organization. It’s clean and easy to read.

I agree with Heather. The site looks great. It’s different from just about every other site I go to all the time. Bright colours and great content. I think it’s a keeper.
Of course with the new version of WordPress just coming out, hopefully you won’t have to do much tweaking of the theme for it to look just as great in 2.5.

      Keep up the great work!

Re: Your color scheme — I think it’s great. It takes chutzpah to pull off red and green and not come out looking like a greeting card, but I think it works really well. Then again, I’m running Firefox, so it looks good in my browser.

Great job on the NYT mention. I figure the NYT is the NYT, no matter how small the mention.

I just wanted to let you know up here they were discussing the Times article and I believe even your site Friday on talk radio. I didn’t catch it in time, but there was a discussion about business opportunities for women and a recent article in the Times. They also mentioned a blog…so you’re site may be getting more press all the time.

Congratulations on being mentioned in the New York Times! That is wonderful!

Thank you all for leaving your comments :))

@ Tina and Jenna thanks and please don’t be shy!

@ Naomi, I had a good laugh about chutzpah and I’m very glad it doesn’t look like a greeting card :)

@ Heather, this is wonderful news. Where are you located and which radio station? I’m always excited when any of the women focused blogs gets mentioned!

@ Jennifer I’m going to wait a couple more weeks before upgrading to 2.5 ;)

The color scheme looks good to me. I think the biggest part of pulling off a color scheme is the layout of the site. Sometimes I go to peoples blogs and immediately think “ok now, where is the content?” This can be pretty debilitating for a site on the internet, where the average attention span is measured in nanoseconds.

I do like the current color scheme however the white contrast to the bright red and yellow is a bit striking.

I love your theme. Are you sure IE doesn’t show it right? One of my blogs have three columns and it shows up okay in IE, but then again, I’m using blogger. Maybe you should adjust the width so it would fit okay.

You could always just find a new layout, and swap the colors to match the same ones as your current ones.
