Quotes: Nell Merlino on Women Owning Businesses in the U.S.

Written on January 6, 2008 by Amanda M. Gladden

“Women could not have business loans in their names until 1974. Back then, they owned only 5 percent of businesses. Now they own more than 40 percent of businesses and it’s time to turn those businesses into million-dollar ideas.”

Nell Merlino, Founder of Count Me In, a non-profit microlender which offers microloans, mentoring and marketing assistance to women entrepreneurs.

Is that really true?? I’m no feminist by far, but thats ridiculus. what was the reason that we couldn’t get a business loan? I would have fought this tooth and nail being a business owner myself. If I had equity and money to put down why would a bank not let me buy something so they could make money its a win win situation! You kind of got me a little upset I’m gonna go Google this and find out more.

i wonder what kind of world we lived in decades ago :)
