Avon Wants to Give You $5,000 to Start Your Business

avon hello tomorrow The Avon company has always been big on empowering women by providing economic opportunity. Initially they did this by making it easy to get in business selling makeup and so on. In their latest effort to empower women, they developed the Hello Tomorrow Fund.

The fund over the course of 52 weeks (which started April 2007) will choose one applicant every week to award $5,000 to help that person start a program or a project or develop an idea that will empower women. In addition to the USA, the fund will be available to assist women in 20 other countries including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

UPS Small Business Contest

United Parcel Service (UPS), the company we know here in the U.S. as “brown” is sponsoring their UPS Small Business Contest again this year. This contest is focused on finding small businesses that transformed ideas into business success stories. Business’ 2006 revenue had to have been between
US $25,000 and US $10 million in order to compete in this contest.

Prizes
2007 prizes are as follows:

  • First place: US$25,000 in cash, printer and PC with UPS shipping tools
    Second place: US$10,000 in cash, printer and PC with UPS shipping tools
    Third place: US$5,000, printer and PC with UPS shipping tools
  • In honor of UPS celebrating its 100th anniversary, a one-time only special prize of US$10,000 will be awarded to the company best exemplifying the “end-to-end service” theme of UPS’s Centennial celebration.

    Deadline for entry : September 1, 2007

    Contest is open to entities conducting business in the following countries:

      one of the 50 United States,
      Canada
      Mexico
      Philippines
      People’s Republic of China
      Singapore
