My name is Amanda M. Gladden. Back in the late 90’s while still living in New York City and working in a high stress job at a law firm, I was determined to start a business allowing me to work from home while taking care of my child. A divorcee and single mom, I had little capital and no business training to speak of.

For months I researched, took notes, made calls and networked both on-line and off. Lucky for me, New York City had many resources available for women interested in starting a business.

Through my efforts, small business training, seed money in the form of a “Trickle Up” Grant and even assistance in pulling together a business plan from a great lady and mentor, Geri Gasper, all came my way. I got my first home-based natural body care and gift basket business off the ground shortly after.

I had so much information on business start up and became almost obsessed with sharing it with other women who were in similar situations. Eventually I came upon an opportunity to host a site on a publishing network as the webmaster/editor with promises of sharing the bounty of advertising revenue surely to come. I was putting many hours into the site, not earning a dime and subsequently gave it up. A few months later that network went the way of the dot bombs of that era.

The zeal to share with others is still with me, so I’m looking forward to passing along useful information and networking with other bloggers | writers and business women of course.
